WordUnscramble.uk is an independently operated word-game website. Content is created with a combination of manual writing, research, and AI assistance, and is checked against the dictionary sources listed below before publication.

How word lists are generated

Every word list on the site is derived programmatically from the ENABLE English word list (~170,000 words), a free, publicly available open word list widely used in open-source word games. ENABLE is not an official tournament dictionary. Lists such as “5-letter words starting with T” are produced by filtering that word list at request time; we do not hand-curate individual lists, so results stay consistent and reproducible. If a word appears in ENABLE, it appears in our results.

How the unscrambler ranks results

  • Every candidate is checked against the ENABLE English word list — no invented words.
  • Results are grouped by length and, within a length, sorted alphabetically.
  • Filters (starts-with, ends-with, contains, required letter, length) are applied deterministically.
  • All computation runs in your browser; your letters never leave your device.

Dictionaries and tournament validity

Results returned by this site are ENABLE-compatible. Official tournament validity can differ: Collins Scrabble Words is the authority for UK, European, Australian and world tournament play, and the NASPA Word List is used in North American tournament play. If a word is critical to a tournament decision, check it against the specific list your event uses.

How articles are written and checked

  • Articles are researched and drafted with a combination of manual writing and AI assistance.
  • Every article is proofread before publishing.
  • Claims about game rules and dictionaries are checked against the game’s official documentation where available.
  • Articles are reviewed on at least an annual cadence and updated when a game’s rules or dictionary changes.
  • We do not use invented author personas; articles are published under the site name.

Independence from advertising

Ads served through Google AdSense support the site. Advertising has no influence over word-list results, article content, or which topics we cover.
