Boggle scoring
Standard Boggle scores by word length: 3-letter word = 1 point, 4 = 1, 5 = 2, 6 = 3, 7 = 5, 8+ letters = 11. Long words are exponentially more valuable — a single 8-letter play beats eleven 3-letter words. Prioritise length over volume when you're competing head-to-head.
Big Boggle (5x5) starts scoring at 4 letters: 4 = 1, 5 = 2, 6 = 3, 7 = 5, 8+ = 11.
Adjacency — the rule the solver can't check
Every letter in a valid Boggle word must sit on a die adjacent to the previous letter, and no die can be used twice in the same word. Adjacency includes diagonals — each interior die touches eight neighbours; corner dice touch three; edge dice touch five.
When the solver returns a long word, trace the path on your board with a finger: start on one die, move to an adjacent die for each next letter, and check no die is reused. If the path breaks, the word doesn't score.
Boggle-specific strategy
- Start at high-degree dice. Interior dice with lots of vowel neighbours are the best launch pads.
- Trace prefixes first. RE-, UN-, IN-, DE-, PRE- open dozens of words when your board has them adjacent.
- Suffix families. -ING, -ER, -ED, -ES, -ING near each other can turn one base word into three or four scored words.
- Watch the Qu die. It's a two-letter freebie — if Qu is on the board, hunt QUIT, QUIZ, QUEEN, QUILT.
- Avoid isolated rare tiles. A Z with no vowel neighbours is dead; move on.
Big Boggle and Boggle variants
Big Boggle (Boggle Master, Boggle Deluxe) uses a 5x5 grid — 25 dice instead of 16. Word length minimum is 4 letters. The extra board space explodes the number of possible words; a good 5x5 score is around 200 points versus 60–80 in classic 4x4.
Boggle Bash, Boggle Party and various digital ports (Scramble With Friends, Word Streak) all share the same adjacency rule. This solver works for all of them — enter the letters, then check adjacency on your particular grid.

FAQs
Doesn't Boggle require adjacent letters?
Yes — real Boggle only accepts words whose letters are on adjacent dice on the 4x4 grid, without reusing any die. This tool gives you every dictionary word your 16 letters can form as a shortcut; you'll still need to check adjacency on the board.
How long is a valid Boggle word?
3 letters minimum (4 in some variants). Longer words score exponentially more — 3-letter words are 1 point, 8+ letter words are 11 points.
Are proper nouns allowed?
No. Standard Boggle rules exclude proper nouns, hyphenated words and abbreviations.
What about the Qu die?
In classic Boggle, Q is always shown as 'Qu' on the die. When entering letters, type 'qu' as two characters — the solver treats them as separate letters.
Is this useful for Big Boggle (5x5)?
Yes — enter all 25 letters. Big Boggle results are much longer and 4 letters is the minimum word length.
