The list is ordered alphabetically; use the filter box below to jump to a specific starting letter.

This is not the Wordle answer list. These 8,636 words come from the ENABLE English word list, which is far broader than the curated set of answers The New York Times uses. Many words here will never be a Wordle answer, and Wordle's own guess list differs from ENABLE too — use this page to explore five-letter words, not to predict answers.

Strategy for this list

Five-letter words are Wordle's entire universe. The 5-letter list matters twice: once for the daily Wordle answer set (~2,300 words), and once for the accepted-guess list (~13,000). For Scrabble, five-letter plays are the second-most-common turn length after four-letter — they usually score 15-25 and often reach a bonus square. Openers with balanced vowels (SLATE, CRANE, ROAST, ADIEU) cover the highest-information letters. For Scrabble, prioritise five-letter words that contain S so a plural extension pluralises an existing word for extra points. The five-letter list is also the base for most six-letter and seven-letter hooks.
